Pairing a sentimental hand-me-down with a new (to me) favorite today:
The jacket is a J. Ferrar, inexpensive, made from synthetic materials. More importantly though, it is one of the things I inherited from my grandfather of blessed memory when he was finally called home a few years ago. Wearing it comforted me when I was grieving his loss. This jacket has always reminded me of him, and by extension his no-nonsense values and where I come from. His style was plain, Midwestern conservative, dignified, and very frugal, like most men of his generation who grew up during the Great Depression.
The shirt does not yet hold memories and strong emotions, but it is my new favorite--an Eton Contemporary Fit in blue-white check picked up like new from eBay. The fabric, fit, pattern, collar style, and feel are all amazing, and the best I've experienced off-the-rack so far. This is the shirt that convinced me to rebuild my shirt rotation around the Eton line for now, while I consider exploring custom builds again in 2026.
