Help: Retailoring slacks several times
Based off of RMRS video posted this morning by , I noted some troubles with taking clothes down in size too much. This is the gist below. I am looking for input at the end.
With another round of substantial weight loss, I am in the middle of having all of my suits, odd slacks, odd jackets, blazers, and a few favorite dress shirts retailored. My wardrobe is not massive and yet I’m already about $2500 in. I’m also learning that buying size 48R suits and shrinking to a comfortable 42R means that I am basically at the end of reasonable reduction. Pants (38 to 32) are the easiest to see, as the rear pockets get too close to one another if taken in even just a touch more.
One pair of slacks I tried on, I told the tailor the waist was still a bit too loose. He agreed and noted the brief distance between the rear pockets was the limiting factor. He then shared that this will be a factor on most of my suit and odd trousers as almost all were purchased at a much larger size.
The use of GLP-2 agonists (think Ozempic and Mounjaro) have helped a lot of us middle aged and older men drop a ton of weight. I am hoping this increased sample size means someone else has played with this thought. Here’s my main question: Will suspenders allow me to wear slacks that cannot be tailored smaller without feeling like they are too loose?
I know this may require me to raise the waist and require extra material at the bottom, but for the 1-3 pairs this impacts, I could just remove the cuffs if necessary. I have to weigh multiple factors including paying even more for tailoring the same slacks, the expected life left on the pants, how they will look with newly tapered legs but a waist that is still a touch large, etc. Any thoughts here are warmly welcomed.
