Country- Oklahoma style
English country and New England styles are the clothing styles that give me the most inspiration. But let’s be real. Instead of a country estate outside of London, my house is a thirty minute drive to the heart of Tulsa, Oklahoma. I thought I might have a little fun with one of the ties my wife brought home and talk about elements of English country style and add a bit home to it.
Elements- the tweed (rather than talk about it here is a background link to those unaware)
The tweed I am wearing I call a barley corn but it’s technically not. More like a left hand twill. It’s a R Lauren hacking jacket
The shirt I chose is a tattersall Oxford weave(Cordings has the prettiest tattersalls I’ve seen)
So you can hopefully see the equestrian theme for the OOTD built around the tie by now. Speaking of the Ralph Lauren Tie, here is some background on the printed tie. Ralph Lauren has sold themed printed ties throughout his illustrious career (1967 he began as a tie designer for Beau Brummell ties). They have actually been around much longer.
Lastly I added my Oklahoma flair with my Levi’s jeans and since I was born in Texas. (Oklahoma, like Texas could each best be described as South Central USA- culturally and climate wise they have a lot of similarities. While some parts of Oklahoma share climate and ideals with Missouri as well, and although Oklahoma was not yet a state during the war between the states I really have never called it Midwest, the last confederate General to surrender was a Oklahoma Cherokee Chief Stan Waite) I added my Lucessee smooth Ostrich boots (Ropers) and my Orvis watch. Oh and I combined two pocket squares. A silk brown reversible and tucked into it is a cotton tattersall. Trying to give an homage to the shirt without looking too matchy🤷🏻
So I guess this would be a wee bit west of London for English Country- partner 😉
