I just wanted to post an update on my personal journey so far breaking into the wrestling business with my main goal being the commentary and backstage interview aspect.
I have always had the dream of being a wrestling commentator.
Getting paid to watch wrestling and talk about it I mean who wouldn't want that.
Recently i decided to take my shot and started a YouTube channel talking about the local promotions upcoming shows.
I learned as much as I could about the feuds the matches and wrestles on the upcoming card.
It got noticed and Wrestlers were told by the promoter to reach out to me and get on my show.
I made YouTube channel call backstage Pass with Danny deathwish and reached out to the promoter (I have a previous relationship with through work)
The promoter also asked me to come to try outs watch and they might have an opportunity for me.
He gave me permission to catch some interviews from the Wrestlers at the show.
I was not ready I was actually thinking how stupid I was since these inside thoughts of being a commentary and interviewer were now going live.
I wasn't ready.. my mic didn't show up in time I had notes and not much direction besides let's see what you got.
We went and I had my podcast mic (it was connected to nothing just for show)
My wife as the camera woman and my kids in tow.
It actually turned out great.
I got 5 interviews backstage and at the merch table.
I got invited back and one of the promoters long time Canadian wrestler gave me the green light to talk to the roster and do a pre show on May...
Crazy...
Fortune favors the brave.
Thought I'd share this for someone like me that thinks there to old not talented enough or can't break in...
My opportunity lined up for me but, if I had to break it down it would be 3 things I learned my very first night.
#1 Be respectful and grateful
Nobody knew who I was so I was grateful to get any interviews.
The first were just asking at the merch table politely and on their time.
Then some guys took backstage and it snowballed from their.
#2 Follow up if you can
I followed up this morning with the Wrestlers and promotors I could find on Facebook with a thanks for the opportunity and an invite to do it again.
Most of them were glad to have the exposure.
3# Be OK with looking dumb
I stumbled over my words a bit but I really do love wrestling so I let my curiosity lead.
None these guys had to give me a shot but they did and hopefully this beginning of a long career in the business I live pro wrestling.
