Professional Wrestling has a 9/10 Rule. For every principle, technique, or concept in this business, there will be that one exception. That one time it didn't hold true. But it is the exception. Not the rule. 9 out of 10 times. This means whenever someone says "always" or "never" while teaching pro wrestling, the 9/10 Rule is in play. Here's an example: As a babyface, you shouldn't cuss, flip off fans, chug beers, and be a hooligan. 9 out of 10 times. Stone Cold Steve Austin did all of that. And it worked. Legendary, even. That doesn't mean it will work for independent pro wrestler number 3492. So when a coach or trainer tells you "never do X," the response "Yeah, but..." shouldn't leave your mouth. 9/10 is assumed. There's always a "but." Here's the real lesson though: You have to learn what the box is before you can think outside of it. Just because it works for someone else doesn't mean it will work for you. Learn the rule. Master the rule. Then earn the right to break it. Drop a comment below. 👇 What's a wrestling "rule" you've heard that you think has an exception?
