Blacks ain't black

I'm having a bit of trouble getting blacks to be black and not this washed out grey/blue. I think a lot has to do with the Metal product. But on some of the great quality metal I get it, but I am abke to mitigate it with high pressure,heat and time. This metal burns it I leave it too long.

Any suggestions?

I also have 2 types of mate for my press. One is a hard foam, the other is like a rubber. Suggestions with this tik?
