How to play the long game - and is it the game for you?

Slow and steady wins the race… until it doesn’t.

In this entrepreneurial world, sometimes you need something different—something faster, hotter, sharper. But not so much that you burn yourself to a crisp.

So what’s the balance?

Is there even a balance?

What is it?

I'm still new to this game - 3yrs in after 20yrs in corporate - and it's a whole new world and ball game.

Here’s what I’ve observed so far:

Move to the beat of your own drum.

Take it all in.

Work out what’s best for you.

Yes, absolutely model others - stick to the recipe until you find your feet. Do what Russell says.

And then? Make sure you contiue to let what’s inside of you emerge.

It’s easy to get trapped inside somebody else’s model or framework. I've done it. It’s hard work- messy work - to unpack and package your own brilliance and gifts. That’s the stretch. A massive one.

And if you’re genuinely in the game, it’s going to ask something of you.

It’s going to take stretch.

It’s going to take fire, heat, pressure - the stuff that makes diamonds. Lord have mercy!

It’s going to take moving past the place you’d normally stop.

It’s going to take transformation. Not surface-level icing over mud type change. Real transformation.

Think: caterpillar into butterfly. That is seriously freaking mind-blowing. So yes - it absolutely happens. And yes it’s absolutely possible. It was wild and wonderful to see where Russell started to who he is now.

And - it's not for everyone. And that's ok too.

That’s the edge.

That’s the question: Are you genuinely in the game?

And if you are - and you have no idea why - aside from the calling being so strong you can’t ignore it?

Keep going.

Get what you need, so you can succeed.Take it all the way.

And stay in communities like this - where you get to mix with the other wild and crazy ones.
