As much as we want our kids to be successful, we can’t do it for them. Perseverance has to come from within. 💪
If I had told my son to write a song every week for a year, do you think that would’ve happened? 😅 Nope.
🎵 But the idea came from him. And he did it.
It was hard a lot of the time because his schedule is so hectic ⏰. And you know what that told me? It told me this is truly his passion. ❤️
When they lead and come up with their own goals, it goes so much better than us imposing what we think they should do on them.
📚 Last night we made his last high school schedule for next year (sniff, sniff 😭).
There was only mild wailing and gnashing of teeth… on both our parts 😬😂.
We finally came to a compromise about college classes. He agreed to take one class instead of another because of feedback he got from other students 🗣️. I had to let him lead on that one — because I didn’t have that information.
Because he made the decision, he’ll fare better 🌱.
He’s still doing the new program he loves next year, and while he hoped to go part-time, this program offers real work experience — almost like an internship 🏗️✨.
🔑 The theme through all of this? I’m letting him lead. As best I can.
Am I perfect? Nope. 🙋♀️
But I do my best to have open conversations, listen, and help him make good decisions 🤝💬.
💬 What’s an example of letting your child lead — and it turning out well?
