What is proofing and why does it matter
Hey everyone! 👋 I know it can feel like once your dogs come home, the training is done — but the truth is, this is where you really finish it. In the dog training world, this is called proofing. Proofing is using your dog’s training in real life and testing it in more distracting or stressful situations. This is what turns training into something reliable, not just something that works in a quiet setting. Some examples of proofing: -Putting your dog on place while you cook dinner or watch a movie -Practicing recall while your kids are playing outside or while your dog is sniffing the yard -Using place or obedience after a play session -Using commands while people or dogs are passing by -Heeling with your dog while you walk to get the mail I like to think of proofing as simply using your dog’s training while you live your everyday life. So — what are some ways you’ve been proofing with your dog since they’ve been home? Drop a comment or share a picture below! 🐾📸
