The PERFECT CHILD.
I just ran across this advertisement on Facebook for an ABA clinic called The Perfect Child. It sure got my attention. For those of you with neurodiverse kids you will know that ABA is a behavioralist approach to teaching kids how to act “appropriately” and do things outside their comfort zone (this is my simplification and wild generalization). Some people say it is a miracle for their kids and others see it as harmful and even abusive. Regardless of where you stand on ABA, the name of this clinic is telling. Is the goal a Perfect Child? Is this what parents should strive for? What does this mean for education and home educators? I’m genuinely curious: do you feel pressure to have the “perfect child”? And do we have a collective understanding of what “perfect” is?
The PERFECT CHILD.
