🪇Backpack Shakedown
My son does a lot of camping. This last trip he went on was a more strenuous backpack trip than he had done and he found himself reevaluating what was in his pack so that he could have a successful trip without excessive weight on his back.
He performed what backpackers call a "backpack shakedown" where they take every item out of their pack and reassess it's usefulness.
For his birthday this fall he asked for a new tent that weighed significanly less (it's weight is in ounces), and a sleeping bag that was much warmer and still very light.
He didn't do away wtih the tent and the sleeping bag. He upgraded the version of these things to make his trip go more smoothly.
He removed extraneous other tools, traded out a cup for a collapsable one. He assessed whether he could replenish his water on the trail, or if he needed to carry enough water for the whole weekend.
He set himself up for sucess, carrying the tools that were going to help him succeed.
I was building my Friction Audit when he was doing all this, and I LOVED the analogy. So I decided to call it my Backpack Shakedown.
This is where we assess what we're carrying, where we can reduce friction / extra weight, and upgrade a few of our tools to make our work, our life and our adventures more enjoyable and effective.
I'm sharing this tool in the upcoming Human Advantage Summit November 2-4 with inside the AIM Map Room with .
Which items in your backpack need an upgrade right now?
The way I'm caring for my body needs an upgrade
I'm using a lot of tech tools but they're not saving me time or sanity
I need more people in my corner - I feel pretty alone on my journey
