I would love your reflections on my personal meditation practice. What would you add or take away? ❤️🔥🌹
I answered a question about meditation to a kind gentleman in the group. He was confused about trying to cultivate his own meditation practice, and all the usual generic advice people give about meditation. this was my response.
love your inquisitiveness, words cannot grasp what it means to quiet the mind.
In fact, the mind cannot be quieted. It can only be reasoned with or allowed to be safe enough to become temporary dormant.
The mind thinks involuntarily just as the heart beats involuntarily.
There is no force necessary to quiet the mind, and as you said, there are many parts of the mind.
But the dominant process that you indeed should seek to bring to peace is the judging mind.
That which seeks to judge label and attach to whatever thoughts are animated.
With this said there are also many forms of meditation, meditation truthfully means Medi state, or Healing state.
Any state that which brings the body into homeostasis. Or the parasympathetic nervous system can become dominant in the body can relax deep enough to begin to heal.
You can do this through breath work, the intentional cultivation of gratitude, the intentional presence to sensations in the body or sounds outside of yourself (pick your flavor ;). There are many ways to get into this open state.
My favorite meditation protocol goes as such.
Take five deep exaggerated breaths, and on the fifth inhale as deeply as you can and keep inhaling until you cannot fill your lungs any longer even if it takes multiple repetitions.
Exhale with a very large sigh, you might get a little dizzy.
Return back to a normal 6-8 breath pattern with a light hold at each side
Repeat for 10 reps, ( or however long youd like) just counting the breath directing the eyes to the center of the forehead and visualizing the numbers counting down like on a movie screen and then move into a short body scan.
When you’re scanning your body exercise gratitude for each part of the body that you are bringing into attention. Ex( I’m grateful for my feet that support me for the ground they walk on. for my knees that allow me to move and flex etc)
Want to get back to the top of the head the protocol is yours to do as you choose whether you wanna focus on the chakras continue scanning the body. I would just be present to whatever the bodies asking and whatever you you’d like to cultivate.
If you want to nurture stillness and openness, then ask yourself this very simple question to calm the judging mind.
“ I wonder what my next thought will be”
And keep asking that question over and over and over again and watch as the thoughts come and go and pay attention to the space in between thoughts.
Expand that space to longer and longer intervals of peace and presence.
And just sit with that presence in that open this until you don’t need to ask the question anymore to be in that space. Unti You can be fully present to every sound sensation without judgment.
This form of Meditation is not inherently, turning inward to dissociate from what’s happening around you. It is to become present to it all and to become fully present to what’s happening inside of you.
Feel free to let your attention be grabbed by the tweet of a bird because it will. Smile allow your mind to appreciate the magnanimity that is that bird in its life and then get back to asking what your next thought will be.
Without judgment.
It is truthfully, a practice of acceptance, to judge yourself or be discontent with whatever thought or impulse is moved in the body is to not accept what is it is to want things to be different than they are.
The simple objective here is to move into a place of full acceptance where you can be moved in all and wonder by every impulse and supposed “distractions” become signs.
