What counts as a win here 🔥
Lovely members, I've made a Wins category, and I want to be clear about what belongs in it, because I think most of you will undersell yourselves. A win is not a performance. It's not a finished piece. It's not you being good. A win is: ✅ You sat down when you didn't feel like it ✅ You got through the verse without stopping ✅ Your left hand did the thing it wouldn't do last week ✅ Someone in your house recognised what you were playing ✅ You made it to day three of a practice streak ✅ You played the wrong chord and kept going instead of starting over That last one is a real win. Most people restart. Learning not to is a skill. Post them here. A sentence is enough. ❤️

The Song That Chose Him
A few weeks ago, one of my students was in the car with his mum. 🚙 Somewhere on that drive, a song came on. Not one of his pieces. Not something I assigned. Just a song, playing while the world went past the window. And you know that moment where nobody says anything, but you both know you're hearing the same thing? They both thought it was beautiful. The song was "O" by Coldplay. Later, they checked in with me. Could he learn it? I said yes before the question was even finished. 🆗 He caught onto the pattern quickly. The cascading right hand, the way the notes tumble down and start again. "O" is built on a repetitive, cascading melody. The same figure, falling and rising, over and over. Almost meditative. Coldplay wrote it around the image of birds in flight, and you can hear it. The notes lift and glide and circle back, the way a flock moves across the sky. 🦅 Music like that gives a busy mind somewhere soft to land. So whether it's grief, or comfort, or simply the sound of birds in the melody, this song found him. He didn't find it. Here's a short clip of him playing it. [Video below] If watching him made your fingers itch a little, good. This is the same "O" pattern I broke down for you here: https://www.skool.com/musicate-academy/you-asked-so-i-built-it-the-o-pattern-practice-sheet-is-here?p=7fa2e629 If you tried it before, play it again. It might sit differently under your hands now. If you haven't, this is your sign. Ten minutes. See what happens. Then tell me in the comments. What's the song that chose you?
