It's live 🎹 Stand By Me Workshop is waiting (come tell us how it goes)
It's out. 🎉 Our very first workshop is live in the Classroom, and I'm posting this with slightly shaky hands. 🤍 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗕𝘆 𝗠𝗲 — 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗦𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗽 Here's the whole idea: you don't learn the entire song with both hands before you're allowed to feel like a musician. Instead, we form a band. You pick one part, played with one hand — the bass notes, the famous riff, the chords, or the melody — and you play it with a full band behind you. One hand is a complete part. That's not the beginner version. That's how bands actually work. The falling-keys videos show you exactly what to press and exactly when, and you will hear my playing right beside you the whole way through. Ten unhurried minutes is genuinely all it takes. Pause it, come back to it, stretch it across the week if you like. There's no deadline and no test. 👉 Start the workshop here This thread is where our band gathers. When you've played it, drop a comment with: 1️⃣ 𝘞𝘩𝘪𝘤𝘩 𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘵 𝘥𝘪𝘥 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘺? 2️⃣ 𝘏𝘰𝘸 𝘥𝘪𝘥 𝘪𝘵 𝘨𝘰? 3️⃣ 𝘞𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘥𝘪𝘥 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘨𝘦𝘵 𝘴𝘵𝘶𝘤𝘬? — 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘯 𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘴𝘮𝘢𝘭𝘭, 𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘦 "𝘐 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥𝘯'𝘵 𝘧𝘪𝘯𝘥 𝘮𝘪𝘥𝘥𝘭𝘦 𝘊" 𝘰𝘳 "𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘦 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘰 𝘍 𝘬𝘦𝘱𝘵 𝘤𝘢𝘵𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘮𝘦 𝘰𝘶𝘵." That third one matters more than you think. It helps me teach this better next time, and it tells the person reading after you that they're not the only one. If you missed notes, lost your place, or had to slow the whole thing to a crawl — 𝐬𝐚𝐲 𝐬𝐨. That's the most useful and most generous thing you can post. And if you're feeling brave... 🎥 𝘼 𝙨𝙝𝙤𝙧𝙩 𝙥𝙝𝙤𝙣𝙚 𝙘𝙡𝙞𝙥 𝙤𝙛 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙥𝙡𝙖𝙮𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙥𝙖𝙧𝙩 𝙬𝙤𝙪𝙡𝙙 𝙢𝙖𝙠𝙚 𝙢𝙮 𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙧𝙚 𝙢𝙤𝙣𝙩𝙝. It does not need to be good. It does not need your face in it — hands on keys is perfect. Ten seconds is plenty. Why I'm asking: this community is full of people quietly wondering whether someone like them can actually do this. Nothing I say convinces them. You do. One clip of a real adult playing a real song does more than a hundred of my posts. If you're happy for me to share your clip beyond this thread, just say so in your comment — I will always ask first, and "no" is a completely fine answer. 😊

@Starr Mosley For some strange reason, I keep getting the notes mixed up!

@Iouri Belov The first two lines are so easy you could play them with one hand! 😁
First Workshop: 27 July, Monday [Stand By Me]
UPDATE: Our first song together has been decided! 🥳 You get to pick the song. 🎹 I'm building something new for us: a workshop where you sit down at your piano and play a real song by the end of the session. Not an exercise. Not a warm-up that sounds like homework. A song you actually love, with my playing alongside you the whole way. Here's the part I love. All four songs below are secretly built on the same four gentle chords. Your hand barely has to move between them. So whichever one wins, I promise it's within reach, even if you've never touched a piano, and especially if you walked away from one years ago. So tell me. Which song do you want to PLAY first? 🎵 Stand By Me. The classic about not being alone. Warm, steady, and it feels wonderful under the hands. 🎵 Unchained Melody. If this one plays at a wedding, someone cries. Slow, sweeping, and gorgeous. 🎵 Let It Be. The one where the piano IS the song. You'll be playing the part everyone hums. 🎵 Every Breath You Take. That hypnotic, circling feeling? That's the chords doing their quiet magic. Vote below! I'll close the poll on Sunday night and start building right away. And here's a little secret for the songs that don't win: they're not going anywhere. The runners-up go straight onto my list for future song kits, so your vote counts either way. Wrong notes are information, not verdicts. More on that very soon. 🧡 MS

Fun 🎉
Shhh... he heard it first. 🤫
Whispered a little secret into this giant's ear — a brand new piano tutorial is coming in July. 🎹 Since you're all here... you're second to know. 😄 What song would you whisper into a giant's ear? Drop it below. 👇

I don't know that Toy Story tune you posted so decided to try A Whole New World and Moon River today instead. Watching the videos with the dropping notes got me interested in that, so I decided to learn how to do that today too. I have been working on creating one for The Parting Glass. It is missing notes for the left hand so needs more work before it's finished, but here's an excerpt of my first attempt.

@Meishi Xie Thank you, I see what you mean. I will add it to my list of tunes to play.
