NOT EVERYTHING IS MEANT TO BE GOT. AND I’M KINDA OK WITH THAT….

So I was in another community this morning. One of those spaces where you can ask for feedback on your About page. You know the ones. And I put the BACKROOM in there, partly out of curiosity, partly because I’m nosy, partly because I actually don’t mind when people say “I don’t get it.” I really don’t. No offence taken. ZERO.

And guess what. A HEAPS A PEEPS didn’t get it.

And honestly… I was like, yeah. That makes TOTES sense to me

Because the BACKROOM isn’t meant to be got. It’s not a thing you read once and go “ah yes, I fully understand this concept.” It’s not a neat little box. It’s not a promise of one shiny outcome. It’s not “do X and you’ll get Y by Tuesday.” It’s not even really a product, if I’m being honest.

It’s a SPACE.

And that’s the bit people seem to struggle with a lot. Because we’re so used to needing to explain the outcome before we’re allowed to exist somewhere. I have been this person big time.

What’s the result? What do I get? What will I be in three months? What’s the transformation? What’s the funnel? What’s the thingy thing?

And the BACKROOM sits in that bit that many people skip. Or rush. Or avoid completely.

It’s the bit BEFORE the action. Before the doing.Before the posting.Before the selling.Before the strategy.

It’s the messy middle. The wobble. The thinking-out-loud. The saying-the-thing-before-you’re-ready bit. The “is it just me?” bit. The confidence wobble. The WOOP moments. The WOBBLE moments. The very HUMAN “I’m in it” bit.

And yeah, people asked me things like “I’m not sure what you sell.” again I was like… yeah.

Because tbf I’m not selling an outcome in here. Not a universal one anyway. The outcome is different for every single epic person inside. And that’s kinda the whole point.

The outcome is that you get to be YOU.Right now

As you totes are.

Not future you.Not polished you.Not healed-you-with-a-bow-on-top.

Just you. In it. With other humans. Doing life and business and community and creativity and doubt and excitement all at once.

And I’m FRICKEN REALLY passionate about that. Like, deeply. Because I see how much time people waste trying to fix themselves before they let themselves move in business. Or trying to explain themselves before they let themselves belong.

DIFFERENT PEOPLE DOING DIFFERENT THINGS AT DIFFERENT TIMES TOGETHER.WOOPING + WOBBLING = WINNING.

And another thing. This is also why I don’t take offence ever when people say “I don’t get it.”

I reckon thousands upon thousands of people still don’t get SKOOL when I tell them about it. They’re like Mimi, “tell me more.” So as it really just the Skool about page that made them join. Probs not. That’s just an assumption btw

Most things that actually matter aren’t understood from the outside.They’re FELT from the inside.

Which then makes me think… how many people actually just randomly land on an About page and join. Hmmm.

Or did they hear about it somewhere else. See it in another space. Feel the vibe first. I kinda DEFO think it’s the latter.

Yes, About pages matter.

But for me, it’s what happens on the outside (convos, connections, content etc) AND the inside that counts.

Which… is that a metaphor for life too. Probs

So when people say it feels intriguing, mysterious, like a secret club, I’m like… yeah. When someone said it’s like a gym for ideas where everyone’s doing different things but cheering each other on, I was like YES. When someone said it’s misery, glory, and camaraderie of struggling together, I actually laughed out loud.

That’s it.

Not a funnel.Not a promise.Not a result.

A space to be fully yourself. To wobble. To WOOP. To think out loud. To ask the thing. To say the thing. And then move from THERE and you get to meet BARBARA (do not expect anyone to get that too) WINK

So if someone ever asks you “what is the BACKROOM,” don’t try to explain it perfectly.

Don’t tidy it up. Don’t sell it.

Just say what it is FOR YOU.

For me, the BACKROOM feels like…

Messy. Honest. Different. Real. Sometimes WTF-ish. Sometimes quiet. Always HUMAN

That’s it.

And if you don’t get it yet… that’s OK

You don’t need to get it.

You just need to step inside it.
