Shorcuts and mirroring
Hi Will and everyone in the community,
I’m currently watching the Fabric Foundation videos, specifically the one on Data Ingestion. In the video, it mentions that Shortcuts and Mirroring work conceptually the same way, by creating a cache and syncing data between the source and Fabric.
However, the Microsoft documentation seems to say that with Shortcuts, “no data movement or replication is involved,” and that Fabric can access the data directly from its source without copying it into OneLake. On the other hand, for Mirroring, the documentation clearly mentions that data replication does take place.
Could you help clarify this for me? I'd love to better understand if I’m misinterpreting something from Will’s video or if there’s a difference in the way the two are described.
Thanks so much for your help!
