How ready is Fabric today?
Hi Will, I came across several online discussions suggesting that Fabric may not yet be ready or mature enough for large, enterprise-scale projects. I wanted to get your thoughts on this. Are there scenarios where you wouldn’t recommend transitioning to Fabric yet? Which features do you feel are the least ready? What major limitations do you currently see? I’d love to hear about your experience using Fabric in an enterprise context. Your insights would be very helpful. Thank you in advance.
Shorcuts and mirroring
Hi Will and everyone in the community, I’m currently watching the Fabric Foundation videos, specifically the one on Data Ingestion. In the video, it mentions that Shortcuts and Mirroring work conceptually the same way, by creating a cache and syncing data between the source and Fabric. However, the Microsoft documentation seems to say that with Shortcuts, “no data movement or replication is involved,” and that Fabric can access the data directly from its source without copying it into OneLake. On the other hand, for Mirroring, the documentation clearly mentions that data replication does take place. Could you help clarify this for me? I'd love to better understand if I’m misinterpreting something from Will’s video or if there’s a difference in the way the two are described. Thanks so much for your help!

Hi Will, thank you for your answer. Yes, according to documentation, when catching 'the files are stored in a cache for the Fabric workspace' and 'subsquent reads are served from the cache rather that the remote provider'. Is catching only for external shortcuts then? I believe that the main characeristic of internal shortcuts is that they are pointers, links to data in other parts of Fabric, to avoid unnecessary data copies and movement. I believe it would make it clearer to make this evident in the introductory video and then mention the special scenario of catching to reduce egress costs. Thank you
