Depth Design: level match direct signal with DS + ER/LR for A/B

While attempting to check if my reverb settings for depth are working well I have a problem: the additional loudness for settings that should push things into the background fools my hearing into the sound being kinda the same on the depth axis.

Of course I could turn the volume down of the direct signal, but I don't know how much for a clear A/B. If I turn it down too much of course it'll sound farther away and I might fool myself of having done a fantastic job at ER/LR design :D

How do you do this analytically?

How to apply it for front/middle/back verb settings for good comparison?

(I use Logic Pro)
