Guys, as we get ready for Saturday’s class, I’m posting this joke here (one of my favorite ones) and I’m going to try to share more jokes throughout the week! And if you come across something funny in English, post it here too! I think this could be a really fun way for us to learn together. Last month, I did a training at my school on how to use humor in teaching, and I’ve been trying it with my 7th graders. And honestly, it has worked SO well! Humor can get your brain more engaged and ready to absorb information, so I wanted to bring that into Fluent & Free too. Now, if you didn’t get this joke, let me explain. 😂 The guy says that putting air in his car tires used to be free, but now it costs three dollars. And when he asks why, the answer is: “Inflation.” 😂 Because “inflation” can mean the rise in prices, but “inflate” also means to fill something with air, like a tire. And THAT is exactly the kind of thing I want us to explore here: jokes, wordplay, homophones, double meanings, expressions, and all those little things that help you understand how English is actually used. I’m really excited about this new chapter of Fluent & Free, where we can have fun, share things we find funny, and help each other expand our vocabulary and understand the little details that make English so interesting.
