Don't Sweat the Small Stuff ... reading stuff with Mila 42/100
📖 Book Don't Sweat the Small Stuff … and It's All Small Stuff by Richard Carlson, PhD. Synopsis: Simple ways to keep little things from taking over your life. The book consists of 100 short articles -- we'll go through them week by week. This week’s # 42: Spend a Moment, Every Day, Thinking of Someone to Love Here's what you need to do: 1️⃣ Read it yourself, take time to reflect on it and make notes. 2️⃣ Join the live reading on Wednesday. We'll read and listen to the article together, line by line. 3️⃣ Share your thoughts. Keep your answer under 2 minutes. Be clear, and focus on expressing your ideas about the topic to practice real English speaking. ***** Earlier in this book I introduced the idea of spending a moment, each day, thinking of someone to thank. Another excellent source of gratitude and inner peace is to spend a moment, every day, thinking of someone to love. Remember the old saying, "An apple a day keeps the doctor away?" The love equivalent might read, "Thinking of someone to love each day keeps your resentment away!" I started consciously choosing to think of people to love when I realized how often I could get caught up in thinking about the opposite -- people who irritate me. My mind would focus on negative or strange behavior, and within seconds I was filled with negativity. Once I made the conscious decision, however, to spend a moment each morning thinking of someone to love, my attention was redirected toward the positive, not only toward that one person, but in general throughout the day. I don't mean to suggest that I never get irritated anymore, but without question it happens much less frequently than it used to. I credit this exercise with much of my improvement. Every morning when I wake up, I close my eyes and take a few deep breaths. Then I ask myself the question, "Who shall I send love to today?" Instantly, a picture of someone will pop into my mind -- a family member, a friend, someone I work with, a neighbor, someone from my past, even a stranger I may have seen on the street. To me, it doesn't really matter who it is because the idea is to gear my mind toward love. Once the person to whom I'm directing the love is clear, I simply wish them a day filled with love. I might say to myself something like, "I hope you have a wonderful day filled with loving kindness." When I'm finished, which is within seconds, I usually feel that my heart is ready to begin my day. In some mystical way that I can't explain, those few seconds stick with me for many hours. If you give this little exercise a try, I think you'll find that your day is a little more peaceful.

Cats Everywhere, Dogs Nowhere – What Does That Say About Our Personalities?
Has anyone else noticed something interesting? In our community, a whopping 95% of posts are all about cats, while dog posts are few and far between. Is this just a random coincidence, or does it mean cat owners tend to be more active online, while dog owners prefer to get out and about in real life? Or could it actually reveal two completely different personality types? Let's talk about it – do you see yourself as a "cat person" or a "dog person"? Drop your thoughts in the comments, and feel free to share a pic of your furry friend too! 🐱🐶

🇺🇸 English Expressions: What’s the Catch? 🎣
Hey everyone! 👋 Today’s expression is “what’s the catch?” 👉 It means “What’s the hidden problem, disadvantage, or condition?” We usually say it when something sounds too good to be true and we suspect there must be a a hidden cost, trap, or fine print. Origin: The expression comes from the idea of catching something with a hook. You may get what you want, but there’s a “catch” attached to it—a hidden condition or problem. Over time, “what’s the catch?” became a common way to question an apparently great deal or offer. 🎣 Examples: • “You can stay at this hotel for free.” — “Really? What’s the catch?” 🏨 • “They’re giving away free laptops!” — “Okay, what’s the catch?” 💻 • “You can work from home and make twice as much money.” — “What’s the catch?” 💰 Quick note: 👉 “What’s the catch?” = What’s the hidden downside? 👉 “There’s a catch.” = There’s a hidden condition or disadvantage. Now it’s your turn! 💬 Drop your own sentence using “What’s the catch?” below 👇 WE LEARN FROM EACH OTHER! 🤝
