STOP Translating Before You Speak English
Someone asks you a simple question:
“What did you do this weekend?”
And your brain does this:
Your language → create the answer → translate it → check the grammar → check the vocabulary → English 😵💫
Meanwhile…
the other person is waiting.
THIS is one reason your English feels slow.
You’re trying to run English through another language first.
One of my ABC students described something really interesting after taking the course.
In his previous English classes, the other students spoke his native language.
So if his English didn’t work?
No problem!
He could switch back to his language, explain himself, and everybody understood.
But in ABC, we deliberately try to put people who speak different native languages together.
Suddenly…
his native language couldn't save him!
If the other person didn’t understand, he had to try again.
In ENGLISH.
Maybe simpler English.
Maybe different words.
Maybe an example.
Maybe a gesture.
But he had to COMMUNICATE.
He told me that this genuinely changed the way he thought about speaking English.
And THAT is exactly what I want.
ABC isn't about creating perfect English sentences in your head.
It's about making English WORK.
