✈️ "Bon Voyage": From a Sweet Goodbye to "Hit the Road, Jack!" 🤬
Originally, in the 1300s. , traveling was dangerous, so we said it to wish people a safe journey. English borrowed it later because it sounded polite. When you say it normally, you are wishing them well on their adventure.
But we also use it when we are mad! If someone is annoying and says 'I'm leaving!', we say a short, angry 'Bon voyage!' In that context, it means 'Get out of here!' or 'Hit the road, Jack!' It means we want to wash our hands of that person. So, be careful how you say it!"
