Example #1 (here I'm pretty sure): At the principles' level
For "principles" (as in at the principles’ level), American English speakers normally do not add an extra syllable because "principles" already ends in an /z/ sound.
At the principles’ level → At the PRIN-suh-pulz level
Example #2 (here I'm not sure): Bill Gates' daughter
How do people usually pronounce this apostrophe (’) in "Bill Gates' daughter"? Should we add a syllable like Gates’ → GAYTS-iz? YouGlish found this video (see attached), and there's no extra syllable added.
