Last week we ran our first IRL Skool Summit.
It was amazing and...
has completely changed how I am thinking about business, community, and what we're actually doing here.
The big shift stemmed from a small question:
Instead of asking "How much can we make?"
we started asking "How much can we give?"
And honestly?
It's been the most inspiring thing I've done in years.
So let me tell you a short story...
About 6 months ago, my business partner and I had this idea for a one-day summit in our little hometown of Kelowna (150k people, nothing fancy). We decided to combine it with one of our 5 day Client Mastermind Retreats and make it something special since and his team ( , , ) were coming through town for the Skool World Tour. The plan was simple:
Sell tickets to the 1 Day Summit for $299 (Discounted most for $150), cover expenses, and donate 100% of profits to Ronald McDonald House (RMH)
We chose that charity for a couple of reasons.
#1 - They were local
#2 - Many local legends support them and we thought they might get behind our event
#3 - My niece needed a multi visceral transplant when she was 1 and was supported by them
We brought in some incredible speakers: Our favorite Skoolers like (all the way from austria) (all the way from ireland) ... Legends & shared their wisdom too The quality of content these guys dropped was unreal...
But here's ONE OF THE COOLEST MAGIC MOMENTS...
Three days before the event:
We had about $4,000 raised.
We were thinking maybe we'd quietly hand over a small check after everything wrapped up.
But then in the last 24 hours the tickets started flooded in.
Suddenly we had $12,500 to present.
But here's where it gets wild...
While we're on stage presenting the check:
Someone in the audience yells out "add $10,000 to that check" → Now we're at $22,500
One of the families who had been supported by Ronald McDonald House : "We'll add $30k"
Dan and Renee Martell, moved by the stories: "$50,000 more" →
donations are still trickling in →
but as of right now we've raised $102,500 total
200 people in the room.
One day. → $102k+ for local families who need it most.
Why This Matters (And Why I Needed This)
This experience changed everything for me.
The generosity of everyone who showed up was overwhelming.
But if I'm being honest, I needed this reminder more than I realized.
For the last 9 months (pretty much since winning Skool Games for the third time) I've felt lost. Uninspired. Tired of the "Make Money Game."
Then my 7-year-old niece (the one Ronald McDonald House supported for years) passed away suddenly a few months ago. Her passing shook me. and reminded me of the stark truth that we actually die.
And how I've been living like we don't.
That realization has forced me to re-examine everything.
Out of those reflections,
coupled with this incredible event,
I feel more inspired than I have in years to play a completely different game.
And if I was going to give the game a cool name I'd call it ...
THE GIVING GAMES.
Because yes, making money is cool.
But giving money and creating real impact?
That's cooler.
And my mind has already come up with endless creative ways to give.
It doesn't have to be formal charity donations (though those are amazing too).
Because one thing I know for sure:
Generosity is a powerful growth strategy.
Focusing on giving generated way more business than we've seen in the last 9 months.
But that's not even the point anymore.
We're developing marketing approaches that let us spend less on ads and give more away.
I mean what if our entire marketing strategy became a vehicle for good?
There's so much more to share about this event...
the entire playbook on how we pulled it off,
the new giving campaigns we're creating, all of it.
But this post is already getting long.
So for now I just wanted to share a massive win, show my love and appreciation to all the skoolers who generously donated their time and came together to make this event something special and to for holding a vision and creating a community platform like this where together we can do epic stuff like this. If you want the Playbook when we finish putting it together just comment GIVING GAMES below and Ill send it your way when it's done.
