Spiral punting can be hard. For high school specialists, a rollout or “rugby” style punt might be a quicker path to being effective on Friday nights. It doesn’t require you to be as exacting with technique and presents at least the threat of a run out of punt formation.
Below is an added twist that played around with working on his own. A typical rollout punt goes to the strong side, or kicking leg side. But with a simple flip of the hips, you can show the strong side movement but go across the field. You have a chance to leave the return team and returner unsettled and reacting late. Give it a try at your next session.
