Todayโs focus is one of the most powerful techniques in language learning:
Shadowing.
๐ง What is Shadowing?
Shadowing =๐ Listening and speaking at the same time
๐ Like an echo, just behind the speaker (as close to matching the speaker as you can get).
Not: โ memorising โ translating โ repeating after a pause
Itโs about flow, rhythm, and natural speech.
๐ฏ Why Shadowing Works
If you want to sound natural in Japanese, you need to train:
- ๐ your ears (listening speed)
- ๐ฃ๏ธ your mouth (pronunciation)
- ๐ต your rhythm (VERY important in Japanese)
Shadowing trains all three at once.
๐ช How to Do Shadowing (Beginner Method)
Step 1: Understand first
Read the script.
Know the meaning.
๐ If you donโt understand it, itโs just noise.
Step 2: Listen only
Just listen 1โ2 times.
Focus on rhythm and sound.
Step 3: Mumble shadowing
Speak quietly, slightly behind the audio.
Donโt worry about being perfect.
Step 4: Full shadowing
Speak clearly with the audio.
Match:
Step 5: Say it alone
Turn off the audio.
Say it yourself.
๐ฅ This is where fluency builds.
โ ๏ธ Important Rules
๐ Donโt stop, even if you miss words
๐ Donโt aim for perfect โ aim for flow
๐ Short chunks are better than long passages
