Without further adieu, the great Dr. Pam!
You’ve probably heard of Mel Robbins’ Let Them theory. Well…I’ve got a podcast coming out soon on YouTube on The Shrink Rap Show—Let ‘Em!!! Watch for it!
It’s a great reminder to stay in your lane and “do you” while letting others “do them.” This can be a lot easier said than done at times, especially with our closest relationships.
Here’s the bottom line in my fave — acronym style, LET ‘EM style!
L — LET PEOPLE BE WHO THEY ARE.You can't change anyone but yourself, so stop trying to manage other people’s behavior or opinions. Let ’em be!
E — ENERGY IS IN LIMITED SUPPLY.Don’t waste it getting caught up in others’ drama or trying to fix them. It’s not your job to make sure someone is OK, happy, or getting along with others. That’s an energy drain. Let ’em fig it out!
T — THERE’S A TIME TO HOLD ON AND A TIME TO LET GO.Accept that not everyone is meant to stay in your life. Some people are here for a season and a reason — and then no more. Let ’em go!
E — EVERYONE HAS WORTH.When someone ignores or hurts you, it can feel like rejection. Often, it’s not about you — it’s about them. Never question your worth. Invest energy in people who genuinely value you. Let ’em in!
M — MAKE PEACE WITH WHAT IS.Practice radical acceptance. Stop resisting reality and accept things as they are. Not easy! This is Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and radical acceptance at its core. Let it go!
In a nutshell — allow others to have their opinions, make their own mistakes, and live with their own consequences. That’s their lane. Stay in yours and keep the focus on you — your thoughts, behaviors, feelings, life.
You can do this. You really can.
Here are some starters:
1️⃣ Shift your focus inward and redirect energy spent on managing others toward your own goals, healing, growth, health, and desires.
2️⃣ Build trust in yourself.
3️⃣ Validate internally instead of externally. Trust your choices, even when others don’t understand or agree.
Your gut is usually pretty darn accurate. Wise counsel is helpful — but no one knows you better than you, save perhaps your Creator.
Do you. Let ’em — and let you!!!Practice makes this easier, even if it feels uncomfortable at first.
✨ Calling all wellness seekers to make 2026 a LET ’EM year! ✨
Can’t wait to hear from you!
Yours on the journey,
Dr. Pam 💚
