commented on my post I wrote Sunday, She asked if “the 5 people” idea can be done with belongings, I loved that question, and the truth is, I’m not only influenced by people, I’m influenced by what I see first thing in the morning.
What I trip over, what looks too much, and what looks calming.
What do I touch 50 times a day, what looks messy and what looks tidy, all of this can determine how I start my days, am I ready to go or behind before I even start.
A drawer full of stuff I don’t use quietly tells me I’m disorganized, a garage full of 20 years of bakery stuff from when I owned our bakeries.
So yes, you can absolutely do the same with your belongings:
- Two columns: Uplifting / Downlifting
- Walk the house and write down the items you interact with most
- One question: does this make my day easier or heavier?
Then make one small shift, it doesn't have to be a full declutter weekend.
Just one fix, donate the “someday” clothes, clear one surface, repair the thing that keeps annoying you.
Small changes can deliver big relief.
Thank you for the question Mary. 🙏
What’s one belonging in your space that drains you every time you see it?
