One percenters are killing us here!
I had a conversation with an 8 figure earner today. My goal was to present my plan for an on-line coaching course for high net worth individuals to audit their lifestyles and help them make adjustments that lower their carbon footprints. This is essential, because the top 1% produce the same amount of emissions as the bottom 2/3 of the world. That’s about 75 million to 3 billion, so, obviously, I’m going after that 1%. Here’s how he responded, ‘I don’t really get it, I mean I don’t know anybody who’d really be interested in that. We’re just too busy, we don’t have time. We give so much, like to charity, tons! That’s what non-profits are for, so it’s how we all do, we give toys and money, at Christmas especially, because you know, our time is so valuable…’ Huh? Seriously, those were his words. I said toys for tots can’t erase your emissions! Nobody can! We have to stop making them! Then he changed the subject. We need people with influence to understand the reality of our situation. It has to hurt them enough to cause a crisis of belief and shift their paradigm. I will try again, he’s my mentor, but he’s clueless on climate….so I’m seeking perspective on how I can approach him, and the rest of his obscenely wealthy set, more effectively. Is it even possible to reach somebody who collects Lamborghini’s and Rolex’s? I don’t think we can do this without them.
Hey who all is active?
I know this is a small group, but it’s an important one! Is anybody following regularly that isn’t talking? Help me out, please. I’m searching for ways to get everyday people to become extraordinary climate leaders. We don’t have a technology problem, we can still turn this ship around, solutions are here. We have a leadership problem. It’s the ideal moment to become a hero, so if you know anyone, send them my way.
💬 A question for the community:
When did you first feel the pull to change direction? I wanted to share this story from The Guardian about Allie Wharf. After years working as a senior foreign producer in conflict zones, she burned out — and eventually found herself doing something completely different: helping restore native oyster reefs on the Norfolk coast through the Luna Oyster Project. What stands out to me is that this wasn’t a neat career pivot. It was slow, uncertain, and rooted in care rather than control. Tiny oyster larvae. Years of groundwork. Long timelines. It raises a question I’d love to hear your thoughts on: 👉 Was there a moment when your relationship with work shifted — from “what can I do” to “what do I want to heal or protect”? No pressure for polished answers. Curiosity is enough. https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2025/dec/21/norfolk-coast-oysters-project?CMP=share_btn_url

Diagrams and checklists
I do love a good diagram - but they can take ages to create. Here are four that all tell the same story - which one do you prefer? 1. ChatGPTs version 2. My version - Midjourney and Canva 3. Notebook LM V1 4. Notbook LM V2

Social/Family aspects of Climate Change
As I was thinking how to frame my question, I realized that one of my main roadblocks to doing more about climate change isn't practical, it's social. And social solutions are certainly not my forte. Anyway, here it is: How do I handle situations where my actions to lower MY carbon footprint impact my loved ones? Examples: I want to cut down car usage, but if my daughter walks to work (or even to a bus) she'll arrive sweaty in summer or cold and wet in winter, so I drive her more often than I'd like. I hate heating a swimming pool with natural gas, but my wife finds water exercises easier on her body. OK, and one about me: I want to switch to an electric car, but I love driving my 15 year-old stick-shift Mini Cooper. (And electric cars don't have stick-shift!) Maybe this isn't really a question. Just to say that Climate change action isn't easy. What do you think?
