WHY 16 MILES FELT LIKE A WIN
Took part in the Malvern Midsummer Marathon yesterday. It was absolutely roasting: 30+ degrees, really muggy, and honestly, because of the conditions, one of the toughest things I’ve done. Steep hills (some that never seemed to end), rough terrain, just hard going all the way. But I’m really chuffed with how I did. Had the support of some great friends who pushed me through it... I was originally meant to do the full marathon distance, but with the heat being what it was, we decided to play it safe and go for the half instead. In the end though, because we got lost in the woods, we actually ended up doing 16 miles – so still a serious effort in that heat! And honestly, in this weather, it felt like a massive achievement. I’m not bothered about the distance, I'm just proud to have got round it. Good news is I’ve got another marathon coming up in August in Birmingham along the canals. Much flatter, so I’m going to push for the full distance there. And as for this midsummer one… unfinished business. I have to smash the full thing next year, 100%. Hopefully with some cooler weather next time! Also planning something pretty major for the back end of next year too. If I can keep up the weight loss and keep getting in better shape, I really think I can do it. Just buzzing. Had a couple of cheeky ciders to celebrate, lit the firepit, and had a little ceremonial burning of the old 4XL clothes – what a feeling!
