I couldn't figure out how to add to my 2-word bio, so this is it.
I'm a very curious life-long learner with many interests--my DH (dear husband) calls them my "obsessions du jour." As a kid, I was very ill, and after wearing out the throats of my family and a few neighbors from reading to me for two years, in self-defense they taught me to read at age 3. I used to read the Sunday comics to my older cousin. I've been a writer, gardener, and pianist since I was 5; a seamstress designing and sewing clothing since I was 12; a knitter and crocheter since I was 20; a trainer, exhibitor, and breeder of Champion Standard Schnauzers (the clowns of dogdom 😄) since I was 27; a skier since age 33; a casual birder most of my life; and a few other things along the way. I've been writing the Standard Schnauzer column in the prestigious AKC Gazette for 22 years, along with articles about various subjects in a variety of periodicals. My post graduate degrees are in systems and nuclear engineering, and I worked with much of the alphabet agencies in the Intelligence Community. We live at 7500 feet on the edge of a wildlife-filled canyon amidst a pine-pinyon-juniper-aspen-Gambel's oak thin forest full of birds about 8 miles west of the Rio Grande in northern New Mexico in a little town called Los Alamos--in other words, we live in the hinterlands😋. I've been stuck in bed since a failed spine surgery in 2016; the bed is adjustable to a full sitting position, where I write with full back support and watch the birds that come to the 14 feeders hung outside my windows. I garden (herbs, veggies, and some flowers) in pots and boxes from my wheelchair on our large second-floor deck; we grow roses outdoors (ground level) and orchids in the house. For dog shows, we travel in a lift-fitted RV; I have an adjustable grooming table where I groom the dogs, and I have a compact motorized scooter for getting around show venues; Ron (my DH) does roadwork with the dogs 🐕 and handles them in the ring. I'd be delighted to share my various areas of expertise with anyone who might have a project going in those areas, with the caveat that there are some parts of my professional life that I can't talk about.😉
