Do You Believe Any Of These 7 Google Business Profiles Myths?
So there are still some guides and videos out there teaching tips that are just outright wrong.
Here’s the reality no one tells you: the game changes constantly. What worked last year could be killing your visibility today.
And if you’ve ever thought, “Maybe these tips just don’t work for me,” that’s not true. It’s because most of what’s out there is built on myths and old advice.
So, let’s get some myths ironed out so you can get ranking and stop wasting time so you can start doing what actually works, just in case....
Myth 1: "Hours arent importan" Some assume your Google Business Profile opening hours arent important.
Truth: You are 10 times more likely to rank when your open, so if you close Saturday and competition is open, guess who gets those customers?.
Myth 2: "Ranking Is All About GBP Settings"
People think optimizing their profile alone will get them to the top.
Truth: External factors, like backlinks, your website, and local SEO, heavily influence rankings. Building brand authority is a much bigger factor.
Myth 3: "Keywords in Business Name = Guaranteed Rankings"
Many people think stuffing keywords into their business name will boost rankings.
Truth: Google penalizes fake business names. It’s better to focus on accurate details and optimizing other profile areas. It may get you a quick boost - but you will have no business for the future.
Myth 4: "Images Don't Impact SEO "Many ignore the importance of high-quality images.
Truth: Images speak a thousand words and Google understands images. So do use images but stop worrying about geolocation data. its generally ignored now and doesn't improve visibility and rankings.
Myth 5: "Set It and Forget It "Some assume that once you’ve filled out your Google Business Profile, the work is done.
Truth: Regular updates, posts, and reviews signal activity to Google, which helps rankings.
Myth 6: "Just Having Reviews Is Enough" People think more reviews = better ranking.
Truth: While reviews help, it’s the quality, relevance, and responses to those reviews that make a difference along with many other factors.
Myth 7: "Posting with keywords Boosts Your Rank" Some believe cramming their profile with daily posts and keywords will push them to number 1.
Truth: Consistent posts help, but Google ignores keywords, in your posts. Engagement and relevance matter more than frequency.
