Criminal facts in Portugal
Because there is crime in Portugal (it's not a paradise...), I'll place some ocasional news about the subject here. Seven people were convicted to prison (7Y9M to 16 years) for a total of 36 robberies. They robbed houses, with old folks inside, and businesses, perpetrated in the districts of Coimbra and Aveiro in early 2022.https://www.jn.pt/3644566357/sete-dos-15-arguidos-do-caso-teia-dourada-condenados-a-prisao/

PT is not the USA, far from it, but...
I still remember when certain politicians in PT said that some of us (who strongly disagreed with them) are "too rural", etc. OK. I was on holiday back home, went outside, listened to this cover track, and it made me feel better: https://youtu.be/XBM419uuN_U?is=yuF0xfg1fjzBOWsk

It's in portuguese, but your browser should be able to translate it. https://www.dn.pt/pol%C3%ADtica/a-operao-salvar-o-10-de-junho-como-o-dia-nacional-sobreviveu-revoluo-e-ao-espetro-do-dia-da-raa

If you’re still struggling or smarting from those recent citizenship changes in Portugal, how about we switch our focus from nationality to the national team, and find a different, and rare opportunity to feel like a true Portuguese? With Portugal’s 2026 World Cup squad announced just this week, there’s a special kind of buzz in the air. And for this Carl’s Column, we’re looking at getting in on the football action, which will envelop this country over the next few months, taking everyone sentient being along, for an emotional roller-coaster ride. Chances are you’re either new to the country, new to the sport (as it’s worshipped in Portugal, and especially if you know it only as ‘Soccer’), or both. So pull up a chair (maybe one of those rickety plastic ones outside your local bar, because that’s part of the training!), and let’s get familiar with the national fixation that’s going global this year, some of the players, and how you can fit in as a footy fan, and feel much more Portuguese."
