"Exit polls put Seguro as clear winner of Portugal’s presidential elections"
Abstention rate ‘surprisingly low’: Portuguese rallied to this campaign says Natasha Donn... "Exit polls coming in an hour after polling stations closed have put António José Seguro as the clear winner of Portugal’s presidential elections. The second-round of voting in this hard-fought campaign saw a much lower abstention rate than initially feared – between 37.5% and 42.5%. Neither candidate has ‘accepted’ the results yet – albeit the Caldas da Rainha ‘headquarters’ of Seguro’s campaign is already celebrating. His adversary – CHEGA leader André Ventura – is ‘still at Mass in Lisbon’, but projections put him at coming in with between 28.6% of the vote, and 33.0%. Projections for Seguro are that he has walked this contest, with between 67% and 71.4% of the vote. This has always been the expected ‘end result’. It is also almost certainly what André Ventura ‘expected’ – as he has made no bones about the fact that he intends to be a future prime minister....more" Join us in the morning for further reflection on the result

@Anna Alcott His bigger power is the capacity to bring the government down and call for new elections. He can also refuse to publish laws (once) or send them to the Constitutional Court for verification. It's true, the real ruler is the Prime-Minister and the Parliament.

@Donna Quinn He has no powers regarding that, that's up to the Government (Prime-Minister).

Cultural events (just the tip of the iceberg...)
This month is celebrated the 500th anniversary of the birth of the most famous portuguese poet, Luís Vaz de Camões. For that reason, the Lisbon Metro signed a partnership with Biblioteca Nacional de Portugal (Portugal's National Library), so Metro travellers can have easy access to his poetry. Lisbon Metro placed posters with QR codes that allow you to listen to excerpts from Camões' most emblematic poems, performed by actor André Gago. This initiative invites customers to rediscover the richness of Camões' work during their daily journeys. https://24.sapo.pt/vida/artigos/poesia-de-luis-de-camoes-tambem-vai-andar-no-metro-de-lisboa
