Gnats and watering

I thought I was doing things right, following your soil recipes, babying my monstera but when I water, the water runs thru, gnats are coming out of the soil. I have two containers one is the soil mix, with perlite and orchid bark, the other is coco coir. Do I need more perlite in the soil or more soil? I also need to put wicks in the planter pots to absorb water in the cover pot.
