What Is The Most Important Thing You Learned In The Last Year?
Every year in the garden, or container garden has at least one new lesson for me. What is your lesson for the year? Mine: Lemon Grass needs more winter light than I can give it at this time. Even though it goes semi-dormant in cool weather, it needs temperatures above 50* F and bright light to survive. I can give it the temperature, but where I am has no natural light in the winter.

@Lisa Clayton Very important. I find that it is best to start with small plants that make the pot look under planted. Even then, I often thin things out. Thank You.

@Cossie Conley Nice. Squirrels can be hard.
Baskets!
I am getting baskets ready to plant for the season! Old Wicker, Random Weave bittersweet, Plastic, and more. I even have a pair of worn out jeans that I am going to plant again! The baskets, I line with an old sheet, The jeans, I cut off the legs and tie them shut. Coffee cans have nail holes. And I drilled holes in old buckets. Saturday, I start planting. The milk crates are lined with old hay. What are you repurposing for containers.

@Sue Palmer Yep. Repurposing is the best.

I've done a bit of gardening over the years, but would like to learn more. I live in California, but plan on moving to Mexico in the future. Thanks in advance for answering what I'm sure will be my many questions!

Hello, Cheryl! If you can grow flowers, you can grow herbs. I would guess that many of the flowers that you grow are herbs. calendula, wild violets, daylily, nasturtium, rose, lilac, lavender, wormwood are just a few that many people grow as ornamentals.

@Cheryl Culbreath It takes mostly love. Research what you are already growing for practical and medicinal properties. Easy in Texas include rosemary, aloe, and bay. I think I got my first bay tree in Texas or Mississippi.
Plant Exchange
Here, where I am, we have a plant exchange. There is one person that coordinates everything online. And we meet in person several times per year to exchange seed, plants, and fellowship. This week is our spring exchange. I will be taking daffodils, hyacinth, lily of the valley, thyme, elderberry, and sage to share. I had a question about bay so I'll take my bay tree to show off. It is so much fun to trade plants and wisdom.
