Here's the recap we sent sharing our major takeaways from the Biohacking Conference last week.
HOW DO YOU KILL A BIOHACKER?
Immerse them in 4 days of gadgets, supplements, cold plunges, saunas, vibration devices, neuro feedback machines, brain taps and supplements galore. It may not have killed us, but it was certainly exhausting... in the best way possible.
Wow, what a week!. B and I just spent 4 days in Austin, TX at Dave Asprey’s Biohacking Conference and as I sat on the 7am flight back to NY, my brain was on fire with all that we had seen, learned, experienced and felt. Brace yourself, this might be a long one.
There was no better way to kick off the conference than by going from our flight (and fight or flight) right into the Ammortal chamber for a little multi-modality, full body reset and recharge. The chamber combines Infra-red light, molecular hydrogen, multi-wave pulsed electromagnetic and electric fields, vibro acoustics, and guided breath work. Check it out HERE. Tuesday night we headed to our friend Freddy’s house, more like a biohacking compound, for a party sponsored by StemRegen. The house had a sauna, oxygen therapy, pulse wave devices, cold plunges, NanoVi and red light panels. The best part about this gathering wasn’t the fun, fancy gadgets, it was the people. We met Freddy last year at Biohacking at the FlowPresso booth (more on his product later) and it was an instant friendship. That’s just the kind of guy Freddy is and the kind of people he surrounds himself with. Freddy has an awesome podcast called Beautifully Broken and has interviewed hundreds of people in the Biohacking/Functional Medicine/Wellness space to educate his audience and share his own personal journey through cancer, Lyme and mold toxicity. Freddy also works with FlowPresso. What is FlowPresso? It’s not a new coffee making device although it certainly sounds like one. It’s a full-body lymphatic reset that feels unbelievably amazing. Think… warm, massaging hug from neck to toe. It resets your nervous system, improves recovery by helping with circulation and provides relaxation at the cellular level. I highly recommend this to anyone feeling stressed, overwhelmed, managing pain, struggling with weight loss and sleep disruptions or all of the above. If you’re looking for one in your area, click HERE. If you’re local to Port Washington, check out the one in Roslyn at Redefining Health in Dr. Anita Sadaty’s office. Mention my name for a discount on your first session - click HERE. We kicked off Day 1 with a 7am Silent Disco Meditation and Breath work session hosted by Pavel - an incredibly talented DJ and an engineer of combining sounds, breathing, meditation and dance. He also has built a business - Upper Aeon - combining conscious products, transformational events and an incredible like-minded community.
Afterwards, we headed over to the best coffee bar you’ve ever seen for a cup of Dave’s Danger Coffee - coffee blended with butter and MCT oil to keep us all fully engaged for the next few hours.
The best part of the morning was bumping into the Keynote speaker, Hal Elrod, at the popup bookshop where he was purchasing his own book, The Miracle Morning. I’ve been a huge fan of Hal’s since purchasing the Miracle Morning for Entrepreneurs back in 2021 as it had a huge impact on me in the days following the pandemic. He was so gracious to share a few minutes of his time for an interview. Check it out HERE. Hal’s keynote was the perfect way to kick off the conference where he shared his story of almost getting killed by a drunk driver and then battling and kicking cancer's ass by using his own S.A.V.E.R.S technique - Silence, Affirmations, Visualization, Exercise, Reading and Scribing. He’s even got an app that holds you accountable, provides guidance and gives you the tools you need to stick to this life-changing morning routine. Check it out on his website by clicking HERE. What we were eating:
As you can imagine, one of the best things about this conference (for me at least) is that Dave will only use hotels that promise to stick to his standards - which include Grass-Fed beef, grass-fed butter, no seed oils, fresh whole foods. We ate fresh fish, grass fed steaks and burgers and coconut milk desserts topped with fresh organic berries. The meals were 5 star in my book and tasted amazing!!! Best conference food ever!
The snacks around the conference were from companies such as Masa (corn chips cooked in Beef Tallow), Proven Beef Jerky, Prana Cakes (pancakes for your brain), Go2Bites, and Offally Good Cooking who made some amazing organ meat recipes for us to indulge on each day - chicken liver, beef liver and tongue.
As for drinks, sobriety is the new norm and being among so many people who know how to have a good time without alcohol… well, let’s just say, biohackers know how to party. And getting to experience world-famous DJ Steve Aioki was truly epic.
There were lots of beverage companies there, including restructured water by Ophora, Hydrogen water, Brez drinks, and of course Danger Coffee. Is Danger Coffee worth the price? Well, if you want to ensure your coffee is mold free, pesticide free, has low acidity and is remineralized to give you more energy and no coffee crash - then HELL YEAH it’s worth it! As you may know, I’m also a huge fan of Scout & Cellar coffee because it hits the same clean standards and tastes amazing. You can get yours HERE. What we will be reading:
I’ll give Dave a big plug here for his new book, Heavily Meditated. For those of you who follow Dave on Social Media and don’t really like him, I will say the in person version of him is so much better than what you see online. While he comes across as pompous and a little douchy, he’s actually kind of sweet and gracious in person. You can see the technology geek, overweight teenager in him, but at the end of the day - he’s incredibly smart and has built a movement that brings together people who are curious and daring enough to want to find ways outside of the box so they can extend their healthspan and lifespan. Because why live longer if you’re going to look and feel like shit. I’ll be diving into Heavily Meditated this summer. Stay tuned for that recap.
In addition to his book, we also added a bunch of other new books to our reading list that were from some of the keynote speakers at the show:
Breath - James Nestor
The Language of Breath - Jessie Coomer
The Plant Medicine Protocol - William Siff
What is My Legacy? - Martin Luther King III, Andrea Waters King, Marc Kielburger and Craig Kielburger
Your Brain is a Filthy Liar - Bizzie Gold
I’ll be posting a Reel on IG this week with all the books that were represented at the show. You can also view them on our Amazon page HERE. What we were seeing:
Vibrating things you stand on, lay on and put on... were everywhere. On day three, when my legs and body were fed up, I spent a few minutes stretching on a PowerPlate machine and then resting my legs on it while I lay splayed out on a large mat on the floor. As the machine vibrated, my sore legs got a lovely little massage - it felt amazing.
Right after, Brian and I went over to one of my all time favorite machines, the Pulse PEMF bed - for a little full body stimulation. The PulsePEMF bed infuses the body with natural healing energy - potentially leading to natural self-healing, enhanced recovery, improved energy levels, reduced pain, and so many more powerful benefits. A quick story - last time I used this bed I had a terrible toothache. As I turned my head, while laying on the bed to look over at Brian on his bed, the pulsed electromagnetic fields shot right up into my aching tooth and sent me to the moon for a few seconds. I asked the woman in the booth to lower the pulse so I could handle the pain a little better. I spent about 10 minutes allowing the pulses to get deep into my tooth. I have not had an issue with that tooth since.
Other fun speakers and workshops:
Dr. Anna Cabeca shared her tips on the 3 Secrets to Reclaiming Your Sexual Desire.
JJ Virgin shared all of the benefits of her creatine line and the difference between Creatine Monohydrate and Hydrochloride. Stay tuned for more on that.
Christina Weber took us through a really fun exercise to connect more deeply to our friends and loved ones.
I interviewed the found, Julie, of SleepCrown - we won one of their weighted eye pillows - and OMG... I've been loving it.
How are we feeling?
Overwhelmed with so many great speakers and so much education. I jokingly said the way to kill a Biohacker is to immerse them in 3+ days of the latest and greatest biohacking devices and supplements. We got home and crashed hard from taking it all in. So tired and yet so crystal clear on what I want to be working on. Here it is....
My key takeaways:
You can eat all the healthy foods.
You can drink the powders and mixes of electrolytes, hydrogen, structured water, creatine, salts and more!
You can swallow 100's of supplements.
You can buy all the gadgets and devices, the yellow and red glasses, the cold plunges, red lights and the saunas.
But….
You can’t biohack your way out of a shitty mindset.
Yes, some of these tools can help your stress, extend your telomeres, enhance your brain function, and make your skin look and feel younger but if you keep returning to a toxic lifestyle, toxic thoughts, toxic foods, toxic drinks (yes, alcohol is toxic), and toxic people… you're wasting your money.
Mindset is everything. As we heard from Joe Dispenza, Peter Crone, Dr. Pompa, Hal Elrod, Naveen Jain, Jim Kwik, Patrick Porter, Poonacha Machiach, and even Dave Asprey, hence the content of his new book, you’ve got to fix your mind... first and foremost.
I’ve been through hell and back this past year, but the one thing that has saved me day in and day out is my thoughts. Life is hard. Life is scary. Life is uncomfortable. We can either let it control us by giving in to the negativity and the news that’s fit to instill fear and hatred in us all or... we can decide that WE are going to be in control.
You CAN control the inputs - the people in your life, the content you consume, the thoughts that are in your head. You get to choose. And you may not know this, but your brain does not know the difference between what thoughts are real, good made up, or bad. So why put the bad stuff in? It’s not serving you or your future self. And it's definitely not helping you live longer.
At the end of 4 days of great food, making new connections and seeing old friends, hearing from the experts on all the things and trying out tons of new devices, supplements and gadgets - the bottom line is this…. biohacking can cost you millions or it can cost you nothing.

You can take all the supplements in the world, Flowpresso your lymphs clean, vibrate and red light all of your parts but if your brain is stuck in fear or stress, and you’re living in flight or flight mode 24/7, and still consuming toxic food and alcohol, all the other stuff you’re doing isn’t as powerful. It all starts with mindset, finding calm, peace, happiness and joy. And finding calm and peace, starts with your breath and learning how to breathe.
All the other stuff - those are the extras and some of them are better than others. You can live longer feeling better if you just learn to optimize your breath and reset your mind.
