What makes a difficult workplace conversation difficult for you?
Is it:
  • not knowing how to start?
  • worrying about how the other person will react?
  • being frustrated before you even walk into the room?
  • trying to give feedback without making someone defensive?
  • repairing things when the conversation doesn’t go well?
I’ve just published a practical guide on this because I think we often focus too much on finding the “perfect script”.
Preparation matters, but so does understanding what you’re bringing into the room yourself.
The goal isn’t to win the conversation. It’s to leave with more clarity than you started with.
I’ve put the full article here if it’s useful: www.danielhallsco.com.au/blog/how-to-have-a-difficult-conversation-at-work
Would be interested to hear how others approach these conversations in their own workplaces.
