Here in Australia, today is R U OK? Day.
It’s a national reminder to check in on the people around us and ask a simple question:
Are you OK?
As the day comes to an end here, I think the bigger message is that these conversations shouldn’t be limited to one awareness day.
Whether you’re in Australia or somewhere else in the world, most of us know someone who has gone quiet, seemed different, or just hasn’t quite been themselves.
You don’t need to be a counsellor.
You don’t need to have the right answer.
And you don’t need to fix what they’re going through.
Sometimes your job is simply to notice, ask, listen and stay in the conversation.
So wherever you are, maybe take this as a small reminder to check in on someone this week.
And if they say they’re fine, but something still doesn’t feel quite right, ask again another day.
Human skills matter.
Sometimes more than we realise.
