When a singer sends me a recording, I usually hear a lot within the first 30 seconds. Not whether the voice is “beautiful”. I listen for things like: • Is the breath actually supporting the phrase - or fighting it? • Are the jaw and tongue free? • Does the voice stay balanced as the pitch rises? • Where does unnecessary pressure begin? • And most importantly: what is the ONE thing that would make the biggest difference right now? Very often, singers are working on five different problems when one underlying technical issue is actually causing most of them.
