...but discovered her real problem was technical. Claudia from Mexico recently came to Vienna to work with me on stage presence and expression. She sang the famous Dalila aria. And what touched me immediately was how deeply she wanted to express the character. But something very interesting became clear during the lesson: Many problems with stage presence are actually connected to vocal technique. The more she tried to "perform" expression through gestures, facial reactions and operatic movements, the more disconnected the whole performance became. So instead of adding more expression from the outside, we started working on the foundation itself: breath support, body organization, an open rib space, and a more oval mouth position. And the transformation of the voice happened incredibly quickly. Within only a few sessions, the sound became much larger, freer and far more radiant. Not because she tried harder emotionally. But because the technical coordination started freeing the instrument itself. That is one of the most fascinating things about singing: Very often, true expression appears naturally once the body and the voice become more coordinated. Claudia will now continue studying with me online after returning to Mexico - and will also come back to Vienna for further work. And I'm very excited to continue following her journey.
