Centuries of attention
For thousands of years, people began noticing something remarkable. Certain plants helped them rest. Others helped them focus. Some brought comfort during grief. Others eased the tension that comes from carrying too much for too long. They didn’t have MRI scanners or gas chromatography. They had observation. Generation after generation, they paid attention to what happened when people breathed in the aroma of certain plants. Today, we have something they didn’t. Modern science is helping explain why many of those observations made sense. Researchers are studying how aromatic compounds interact with our sense of smell, the limbic system, emotions, memory, and the body’s stress response. For me, it isn’t a choice between ancient wisdom and modern science. The two belong together. I value the centuries of careful observation that came before us, and I’m grateful for the research that continues to deepen our understanding today. That’s why I love Aromatherapy. It honors both tradition and evidence. 🧐Have you ever wondered how people first discovered the remarkable properties of these plants?

Sandalwood doesn’t rush. Neither should you.
It’s amazing that of the most treasured sandalwood trees spend decades growing before they produce the heartwood that becomes essential oil. Proof that nature isn’t in a hurry. And yet it creates something extraordinary. We expect ourselves to keep on pushing, keep on answering every notification, keep on solving every problem, and carrying every responsibility without a pause. Our nervous system is amazing but our nervous system wasn’t designed to live in constant urgency. Sandalwood reminds us that because you rest doesn’t mean you’re lazy. Sandalwood has a warm, woody aroma that you choose when you want to slow the pace, quiet mental chatter, and create space to breathe before responding instead of just reacting. Go ahead. Take one slow minute today. You are so worth it 🥰
Essential Oils speak the body’s language
Your body has its own unique language. Your body communicates through your breath, your heartbeat, muscle tension, digestion, sleep, and even the way you respond to the various kinds of stress. Essential Oils don’t “talk” to your thoughts first. They start with your senses. When you inhale an Essential Oil, aromatic molecules travel through the nose to the brain’s limbic system. This area is involved in emotion, memory, and the stress response. That’s one reason a familiar scent can instantly make you feel calmer, more alert, or more comforted. It’s not magic. It’s biology. Lavender may encourage relaxation. Peppermint may help you feel more alert. Frankincense can invite slower, deeper breathing. Bergamot often brings a sense of emotional lightness. The body recognizes these aromatic signals way before we try to think ourselves into feeling better. Which is why I say… Essential Oils speak the language of the body. They gently remind your nervous system that calm, rest, and balance are just a breath away. 💜 What’s one Essential Oil your body seems to recognize immediately?

Why I reach for Frankincense
In the past whenever I felt stressed I would try to think my way back to being calm. I started using Frankincense and I discovered that it works differently. First thing I noticed was the aroma. It’s deep and it grounds you. I would notice that I could breathe deeper and slower. My nervous system didn’t feel so nervous. I could literally feel the tension lift off of me. Amazing. So I’m reaching for it now because I feel overwhelmed with my to do list. It helps me pull my thoughts together. I appreciate that it doesn’t energize me like that fake caffeine energy does. And it also doesn’t sedate me. It just gives me some space to be me. I like that. I blend it in a roller bottle with jojoba oil. I usually roll it on my arms and neck and rub it in. Sometimes I put it on my feet. It’s so nice. Do you use Frankincense? I’d love to hear when you reach for it most.
