🥘— Subcategory Ungating Is NOT The Same As Brand Ungating
In Grocery, there are TWO different approvals.
They are not the same.
🛒 1️⃣ Subcategory Ungating (10 Unit Invoice Rule)
This is when Amazon asks you to unlock the Grocery subcategory.
To do that, you usually need:
📦 10 units of the SAME product
🧾 A real wholesale invoice
Not:
❌ 5 of this + 5 of that
❌ Store receipt, NO local delivery drop off, no store pick up, or instacart
It must be:
✅ 10 of ONE exact item
✅ Proper supplier invoice (Target, Frontier co op most time works )
✅ Your name/business matching Amazon
If approved → You are ungated in the Grocery subcategory.
But that does NOT mean you can sell every brand.
🏷️ 2️⃣ Brand Ungating (Separate Approval) +100 unit ungating
Even after Grocery approval, some brands are still restricted.
Example:
You’re ungated in Grocery ✅
You try to list Maxwell coffee ☕
Amazon says “Approval Required” 🔒
That means the BRAND is restricted. (until its ungated)
Now you must:
📦 Buy 10 units of that specific brand item
🧾 Submit invoice again
📤 Apply for brand approval
💡 Simple Breakdown
🛒 Subcategory = Permission to enter Grocery
🏷️ Brand = Permission to sell THAT specific brand
They are two different approvals.
Being ungated in Grocery does NOT automatically ungate every brand inside Grocery.
