John Harris here. Sixty-two, Navy veteran, ten years in, three ships, and now I spend my time trying to string sentences together instead of standing watch.
I write. Wellness stuff, some fiction, a book that took longer than my service contract did. Turns out writing a book is harder than any of the things I used to think were hard, and I did some genuinely dumb things in my twenties for fun.
My editor is my wife Kim, who reads everything I write and tells me the truth, which is a skill most editors charge extra for. My dog Gus offers no notes but sheds on the manuscript, so he counts as a collaborator.
I'm here to learn from people who do this better than I do, and to figure out why my sentences still sometimes sound like a Navy instruction manual.
Good to be here.
