Are Videos that are slightly outside my micro niche but still in my niche killing my YT recommendations?

I have a channel with 20k + subs with a niche of; Backpacking>Appalachian Trail> Thru Hikers>Thru Hiker and Trail News. I do a weekly News episode on what's going on with the Appalachian Trail ( AT ) and the Thru hikers on it. Occasionally I include my own hikes, gear reviews, other subject matter on the AT and backpacking. My weekly news video gets 5k to 10 k+ views. My personal hikes on the AT get 3-6k. I have recently hiked the Camino in France and are uploading my videos for that trail. My vids on it are way down and I get 1.5k-3k. Is my Camino hike vids too far outside my AT backpacking niche and the lower view rate is hurting my overall channel recommendations. My growth has been anemic for 5 years with about 85 subs a month.
