Lessons from Mindset Masterclass by Mike Cernovich

Hey everyone,

So today, instead of writing copy, I decided to watch the Gorilla Mindset Masterclass by Mike Cernovich which is given in our free classroom resources.

It’s almost a 3-hour long video, and there are some really important lessons that I learned from that masterclass. Sharing some of them here so you can get some inspo too, no matter where you are in this copywriting journey, or whatever phase of your life you’re in.

1) Solve the problems indirectly.

You can’t stop worrying by trying to stop worrying. You can’t reach happiness by chasing happiness. Similarly, you can’t change your mindset head on. It can only be changed when you change the components that create it, which are self-talk, vision, focus, lifestyle…

Work on these habits and watch your mindset change naturally.

2) Your past isn’t real. It’s just a story that you keep telling yourself.

You can’t change the past events. But you CAN change the meaning attached to them. Cernovich talked about growing up poor and being bullied. But instead of thinking about those hard times, he focuses on having parents who showed up. Same facts, but a different story.

So you can rewrite how you talk about what happened to you, and when you do, your whole identity shifts.

3) Framing determines how you experience everything

The way you describe a challenge shapes how you feel about it. So start paying attention to the language you use for your problems. For example, “I’m drowning in work” hits different than “I’m building something”. Neither is more true, but one helps you and the other doesn’t.

4) Vision without daily check ins is just a day dream

This one’s my favorite as it makes us accountable. A vision only works when you’re constantly asking yourself “Is what I’m doing right now bringing me closer to my vision or not?”. This daily check in is what separates day dreamers from action takers.
