I find it useful to group construction software by the work it helps you do:
Business foundations: Email, accounting, payroll, file storage, PDF markup and spreadsheets. These cover the basics of running the business.
Winning and pricing work: Track leads and tenders, measure quantities from drawings, and build estimates covering labour, materials, overheads and profit.
Project delivery: Manage programmes, drawings, site diaries, safety, quality, defects, variations, payment claims and project costs.
Wider business management: Manage purchasing, suppliers, your workforce and equipment, and see how multiple projects are performing.
AI: Use AI within your existing software or connect it to organised business and project information.
You do not need a separate subscription for every function. Some contractors use an all-in-one platform. Others combine specialist tools with Excel and shared folders.
My advice is to start with the work your business needs to manage, then choose software that fits.
