I turned 50 yesterday π
One year ago, on my 49th birthday, I woke up in a full-blown panic. My head had been firmly in the sand and I had no real sense of whether Future Me was going to be OK.
So I did something uncomfortable:
I looked. Properly π
And Iβm in a significantly better place now than I was just one year ago.
Over the last year, here are the five things that made the biggest difference:
1οΈβ£ I examined my money mindset β the stories, shame, and avoidance Iβd absorbed
2οΈβ£ I got clear on my actual numbers (messy, imperfect, but real)
3οΈβ£ I learnt a bit about investing β because I had never been taught
4οΈβ£ I built an emergency fund, so I stopped yo-yoing in and out of stress and debt
5οΈβ£ I started paying myself first β because no one else was going to look after future me
None of this required being βgood with money.β I just needed to get educated and get started.
Midlife is NOT too late to sort your finances out, it's actually a powerful moment to take control - with more wisdom and more perspective.
