I did the same thing. Watched every American YouTube guru. Followed their playbooks word for word.
Then I ran into reality.
Referral fees hit different up here. The category restrictions are tighter. Half the brands I wanted to sell were gated behind walls that US sellers never deal with.
I kept thinking I was doing something wrong. Turns out I was just playing a different game with the wrong rulebook.
The shift happened when I stopped trying to make US strategies work in Canada and started asking a different question:
What advantages do I have that they don't?
Smaller seller pool. Less competition per listing. Buyers who are loyal because they have fewer options. And fees that act like a filter - keeping out everyone who isn't serious.
The same things I thought were holding me back were actually clearing the path.
If you're early in this and feeling like the Canadian market is harder - you're right. It is.
That's the whole point.
