As with most newbie affiliate marketers, I was taught to sift through the popular keyword research tools looking for high volume/low competition keywords. Then, it was low volume/low competition keywords(low hanging fruit).
In my experience so far, and this should be obvious, if a kw volume is high then naturally the competition is going to be high. (Popular)
Low hanging fruit is cool, in theory, but even if you rank on page 1, there’s not enough people searching to bring traffic to your site. (I’ve experienced this one)
One thing I’ve learned in my short time doing this:
- Keyword volumes are NOT the most important indicator (but stay away from using broad terms like ‘weight loss solutions’ for example)
- Search intent IS important
- Google is smarter nowadays and can understand synonyms, you don’t need exact match keywords
- Gain topical authority by clustering questions on a topic, then you will rank for hundreds, if not thousands, of other keywords in the process
—using long-tail keywords
5. Cover the topic not the keywords
